5 Apps to Help You Get in the Word (FOR WOMEN!)
At the beginning of the year, many people set their hearts on habits they want to pick up for the New Year. Some of those include getting a gym membership, eating healthier, watching less TV, or for some, reading the Bible more. As we all know, by the time March comes around, we’re either amazed with our discipline skills or lounged out on the couch, watching hours of 13 Reasons Why, gorging down a bag of Milky Ways with our Bible’s still on the shelf. (Or maybe, that was just me.)
For the past couple years, reading the Bible daily was always at the top of my “to do” list for the New Year. And every year I found myself discouraged by my inconsistency. Part of the reason was I didn’t know where to start and I kind of had no idea what I was doing.
In my journey to get in the Word more, I gradually stumbled upon these awesome apps that have been monumental in helping me know how to study the Bible on my own. They’ve helped me get consistent AND excited about waking up to read God’s word.
I’m so pumped to share them with you!
Let’s do this!
#1. She Reads Truth
This was the very first app I discovered and let me tell you, it just keeps getting better and better. She Reads Truth offers daily devotionals and assigned Scripture readings to help you understand the context behind what is being said. They have many amazing contributors who give such incredible biblical insight in a way that is relatable and understandable. You are able to purchase Study Guides to go along with the studies or you can access it all from your app or web browser. (They just came out with their own Bible too—how awesome is that?!
#2. The First 5 App
The First 5 App has to be one of my favorites. First of all, it has a built in alarm with really cute tones that won’t tick you off in the morning! When you turn the alarm off, it goes straight to the days devotional. BAM. First five minutes of the day—In God’s Word. First 5 always works through books of the Bible, studying one chapter a day. They have a built in online community where you can talk with others about the day’s reading or even just start up conversation to meet people. Not to mention, they have super cute pictures with the big idea each day. They can be used as lock screen wallpapers to help you remember the day’s teaching. IT’S AWESOME. Download it HERE.
#3. IF: Gathering App
If you’re looking to do more topical studies, this app is for you! I love this app for SO many reasons, but one of them is because I always love the content that is studied. They’ve done studies on the Nicene Creed, Church History, How to Study (and I mean STUDY) Your Bible, How to Make Disciples, and Practicing Spiritual Disciplines. Just like the other apps mentioned, it includes daily scripture reading, a devotional and an online community. HOWEVER. This app includes videos every day where Jennie Allen and other Bible teachers discuss how to practically live the truth out. It will blow your mind. Get it HERE!
#4. Discipleship’s Journal 5x5x5 Reading Plan (Bible App)
This one isn’t its own app, but is a plan found on the Bible app. This study completely changed the way I study my Bible. It’s phenomenal. The plan helps you go through the New Testament in one year by studying one chapter of the Bible a day. It’s almost like a guide, giving you methods, questions, and things to consider as you read through the text. These make all the difference! I’m telling you… you’ll be amazed at what you discover in just one chapter a day. Get started HERE!
#5. Proverbs 31 Devotional App
This app is nice whenever you’ve finished your Bible reading for the day and you’re looking for a little extra encouragement. Everyday, there is an uplifting word waiting for you to read. Proverbs 31 has many contributors and writers that offer multiple perspectives on everyday life struggles. You’ll find yourself sighing in relief as you read other’s testimonies that assure you that you aren’t alone in the struggles you’re facing. The app also has an online community to discuss issues, pray for and encourage one another. Click HERE to start the encouragement.
(A little pop up should come up asking if you want to download app—Click YES!)
My hope is that you find one of these apps that helps you, pushes you and inspires you to dig into the Word daily. Which one is your favorite? What other apps or resources have you used that help you stay consistent?
